A 6 DAY TRIP TO ROMANIA

Departure: Larnaca-Bucharest     29/04/2019   OB 138   12.30-14.50

1st DAY:  LARNACA - BUCHAREST - IASI

Meeting at the area next to the church of St. Apostle Barnabas Dasoupolis.  Departure for Larnaca airport.  Direct flight to Bucharest capital of Romania, by blue air airlines.  After arriving at Bucharest we will take the bus and travel to Iasi.  (Capital of Moldavia) After a couple of stops, arrival at the hotel.  Free time to take a rest.  Dinner.  

2nd DAY: IASI - SUCEAVA - IASI

Breakfast.  Departure for Suceava area in the provicne of bucovina, well known for its painted monasteries, masterpieces of Byzantine art.  (both indoor and outdoor)  We will first viist the convent of VORONET dedicated to St.  George (built at 1488 AD by st. Steven) It is considered wondrous for its beautiful frescoes that are famous worldwide for their blue color.  St.  Steven built the monastery so that he would fulfill the promise that he gave to his spiritual father after a victory agaist the Turks.  The 

monastery is also very popular for the birght colors of its outdoor frescoes.  Next, a visit to HUMOR monastery, one of the religious masterpieces of Bucovina.  Humor monastery is almost 500 years old.  The byzantine frescoes are considered to be a rare precious treasure.  Return to Iasi.  Then we will visit and venerate the Orthodox Metropolitan-Cathedral of Saint Paraskeva (the relics of her whole body are kept there) as well as the holy temple of the holy Three Hierarchs (this is the place where the men of the Society of friends - Filiki eteria, gave oath just before the commencing of the Greek revolution) Free time.  Dinner and stay at the hotel in Iasi.  

3rd DAY: IASI - PIATRA NEAMT

Breakfast.  Our tour will begin by the visit to GOLIA monastery which was built by Ioan Golia.  It constitutes a combination of byzantine and gothic influences.  It also operated as a castle in cases of hostile attacks, as it is witnessed by its huge walls.  Free time for lunch and shopping.  Departure for PIATRA NEAMT.  On our way we will visit the monastery of AGAPIA -an orthodox convent dedicated to Archanger Michael, established in 1643.  The frescoes were paitned by Nicolae Grigorescu, between 1858 and 1861.  It is one of the biggest monasteries in Romania, comprising of 300-400 nuns.  Then we will visit the monastery of SECU, which is dedicated to the beheading of John the Baptist.  At this monastery, during a battle, Georgakis Olympios fired a huge barrel of gunpowder and blew up the belfry, killing all the enemies that were found close by.  Arrival at NEAMT.  Free time.  Dinner and stay at the hotel in NEAMT. 

4th DAY: PIATRA NEAMT - BRASOV - SINAIA

Breakfast.  Departure for Sinaia, passing through the beautiful town of BRASOV, with its stone constructed square, the endless cafes, restaurants and shops.  We will have a few stops while driving through the majestic route, passing through the Bicaz gorge and the red lake. (Lacul Rosu)  Departure for the famous Bran castle known as the castle of Dracula.  A quick stop at Brasov.  Arrival at SINAIA, the famous winter resort, the pearl of the Carpathian range that its history is strongly connected to the monastery which was built by Michael Kantakouzinos as well as with Mount Sina.  Dinner and stay at the hotel in SINAIA.  

 

5th DAY: SINAIA - BUCHAREST

Breakfast.  A tour of the town of SINAIA and a visit to the monastery of SINAIA.  Next, a visit to the impressive Peles castle, the summer residence of the royal family of Charles I.  Departure for Bucharest.  Arrival.  Free time.  Dinner and stay at the hotel.  

 

6th DAY:  BUCHAREST - LARNACA

Breakfast.  Our tour will begin by the visit to the Patriarchate of Romania and the Metroplitan temple.  (Cathedral)  Following a tour of the city, we will visit the impressive building of the Parliament, the Palace of Ceausescu, the square of revolution, Cismigiu Park, the outdoor village museum, the Triumph Arc, and other monuments.  A tour of the old town will follow.  Among other attractions, we will see the buildings of renaisance.  (converted into pubs, restaurants and shops)  Then we will visit the historical church of Stavroupolis.  Free time.  Departure for the airport for the flight back to Larnaca.  Arrival at the airport.  Transportation to Nicosia.

THE PRICE INCLUDES: 
- Flight ticket Larnaca - Bucharest - Larnaca (including a 20kg luggage and a hand bag 8kg)
- All tax and fuel surcharge.  Any price increase will be added to the total cost of the journey.  
- 1 night at "Mercure Unirii" 4 star hotel with breakfast at BUCHAREST.
- 2 nights stay at "Ramada" 3 star hotel (superior) with breakfast at IASI.
- 1 night stay at "Central Plaza" hotel with breakfast at PIATRA NEAMT.
- 1 night stay at "Palace" hotel with breakfast at SINAIA. 
- 5 dinners at all hotels
- Transportation Nicosia-Larnaca airport- Nicosia
- English speaking tour-guide who will escort us at all attractions.

THE PRICE DOESN'T INCLUDE:
- Entrance to museums, caves, archeological sights, palaces, towers, castles and churches (in case there are any entrance fees)
- At a few chuches that we will visit, there is a 1 euro entrance fee. 
- Drinks, tips, porters
- Anything that is not mentioned above or mentioned as optional. 

+  The application form should be filled with all the necessary information i.e. passport no. or EU identity card (should not expire 6 months priot to the trip) and a 250euros prepayment per person should be given the latest by 28/12/2018 at the latest.  The rest of the amount should be given by 10/04/2019.
